| Nonfiction Writing Units of Study
|
Nonfiction writing has many text forms and purposes. Students need to be
given authentic purposes for writing nonfiction, such as: nonfiction writers write to inform or explain.
In these workshops, teachers of grades K–8 will examine various forms of nonfiction, including "All-About" Books, Nonfiction,
and Essay. Teachers will focus on a nonfiction unit of study in writing workshop.
Teachers will:
- Read mentor texts and examine nonfiction features;
- Study the process nonfiction authors use when generating, developing, and researching ideas;
- Name the structure or organization of various nonfiction texts; and
- Identify specific goals and assessments for nonfiction writing.
Teachers will take away great book lists, mini-lessons, and assessment tools. This is sure to be an informative, fact-filled day!
