This workshop will look at lessons that set the stage for the rituals, routines, and procedures that will establish the connections between your reading workshop and the test preparation work that needs to be done in the weeks before
state-mandated English Language Arts test.

We will be examining touchstone texts as resources for test preparation instruction.

The focus of this workshop will be the skills, strategies, and understandings that we want our readers to use in order to effectively read, think, and answer questions, both about texts and tests.

During this workshop we will look at how we formulate questions around the texts we use in reading workshop and how they match the type of questions our readers encounter on tests.

ROBIN COHEN
Robin is presently a literacy consultant in several school districts in the Northeast. She was formerly a reading specialist and staff developer in District 11 in the Bronx and at Liberty Elementary School (Nyack School district in Rockland County, NY). During Robin's tenure at Liberty, her school won the NY State Exemplary Reading Award from the IRA (2005-06). She was the NY State Reading Teacher of the Year in 2002, and honored as an NCTE Educator of Excellence in 2001. Robin is also the originator of the Student-Run Bookstore project published in the American Educator and Parade magazines. Robin is also the author of the book Developing Essential Literacy Skills - A continuum of instruction for grades K-2 published by The International Reading Association.
